So here are some pictures from another full, exciting week!
We went paddle boating on the Danube! I don't know if you can see, but in the back there are totally houses on the "lake." It totally felt like bearlakeish when we were out there and I was pretty surprised. Who knew you could have a lake right in the city!
Becca and I
Chopin's House
One of Mozart's many houses... nbd
Right after we got out of the CATACOMBS!!! so sick!
These are real human bones!! stacked up like there is no tomorrow!
Stephansdom- where I went in the catacombs
Got myself a smartie Mcflurry :)
We asked a guy at the school for somewhere super local and yummy to eat, he pointed us to the Gulashmuseum. So that is where, and what, we ate! MMMM gulash and dumplings! We went to the Military Museum for class. This is Turkish war items. Tons of sweet staffs with feathers and tons of swords, all bendy like.
The first grenades
Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Car!!!! This is the real deal!
Three of the four guns used to shoot at Franz (and they were only given to the Museum five years ago, by some monastary that had had then since 1914 or whenever!)
His clothes! you can kinda see the tare from the bullet
WWI gas mask and suit
Motorcycle tank, oh ya!Monastery in Melk- the beginning of our 20 mile bike ride
This monastery has 30 monks and 900 school children!
This is the Book Benedict's Rules- The monk who wrote down the "rules" that all the other monks ended up following. BRY: haven't you talked about this in Humanities? When you talk about Gregorian chant?A traditional monk outfit from clear back that is still worn on christmas and easter
This is a treasure chest from the 1400's. There is one key that turns all the locks and contraptions. It totally reminded me of harry potter and the goblins in greengotts... yepBiggest Library of the oldest books!!!! It was soooo sweet! and all I could think of was beauty and the beast haha
Our lovely 20 mile bike ride! There were castles and ruins all along the whole way. It was beautiful! Riding by the river, on my bike, in austria, nbd!! it was soooooo great! There were grape vineyards and apple orchards, in all these little towns we went through. It was so pleasant. There were times when I thought I couldn't peddle anymore, but then five minutes later I would be in the groove and just cruising! I am seriously proud of myself, we went all 20 miles with only stoping twice for like 30 seconds each time!
The train ride from Krems back to Wien. We are all dead. Oh ya and our butts KILL!
We had to hurry back because all us girls int he picture above had tickets to the Ballet at the Opera house. It was unreal. I was sitting in a box on the second level, fourth from the left. We were in the second row in the box though so we could barely see the stage when sitting. So after the first half we went up to the top standing room. It was a much clearer view. Lesson learned- buy the cheap standing room tickets cause you'll end up there anyway!
I really enjoyed the Ballet too! The first few numbers were super contemporary and modern, which was really interesting, but the last one was classic ballet and was beautiful.
Today we went to conference and that was a whole story and adventure in and of itself. You just never know what to expect here in Vienna!
Love the Harry Potter lock and Beauty and the Beast library. Janice would have LOVED being their with you--that's her current movie from the library :) And I'm way jealous of the bike ride, that looked amazing! Was that for school? I would have loved that--wanna go back again someday and do it with me??
